SItuated on pristine Lake Wepaugaum, just west of New Haven, Orange is an open, well-planned residential community that has managed to retain its New England simplicity despite significant growth and development. The 17.6 square miles that make up the town were once owned by the Paugusset Tribe of Native Americans. In 1639, a protestant minister purchased the land from the tribe for a large parcel of merchandise including coats, blankets, hatchets, hoes, knives and small mirrors.

Residents enjoy the many amenities of suburban living with easy highway access to major business centers and shopping in town. The town has three elementary schools and a middle school while high school students attend classes in nearby Woodbridge . There is a large single family home market in Orange as well as a smaller number of available condominiums.

Neighborhoods in Orange are intimate gatherings of single-family homes in a variety of traditional and contemporary architectural styles. The town offers a choice of retail, entertainment and employment opportunities with easy commutes to surrounding centers of enterprise via Route 1, Interstate highway 95 and the Wilbur Cross Parkway (Rt. 15).

The school system serves the needs of local residents with a basic academic program. There are three elementary schools and a junior high school. High school students attend classes in nearby Woodbridge. The diverse student body has access to college preparatory classes, special education, advanced courses and continuing adult education.

Outdoor and athletic activities include playgrounds, ball fields, tennis courts, public and private golf courses, a local summer camp for children and a town swimming pool. Water sports and picnicking are enjoyed at Lake Wepaugaum.
