About the Town of Stratford
Stratford Connecticut is home to Sikorsky Aircraft, a major employer and aviation center with its own municipal airport and helicopter museum. The town is comprised of mostly middle and working class families with a good school system that offers vocational and technical training opportunities at the high school level. Stratford’s housing market is one of the most affordable in lower Fairfield County.
The town of Stratford’s master plan carefully monitors growth to maintain a well balanced housing market. Single family homes in a variety of traditional and contemporary styles line neighborhood streets with the more northern areas featuring newer construction.
A handful of intriguing parks, museums, and community centers make Stratford a great community for families. The National Helicopter Museum commemorates the city as the birthplace of the U.S. helicopter industry. Igor Sikorsky, the original developer of the helicopter, founded Sikorsky Aviation in Stratford. His company is still a major employer in the area, and the local municipal airport bears the founder’s name.
Stratford is also the home of the nationally acclaimed American Festival Theater and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Theater.
