About the City of Norwalk
The waterfront city of Norwalk sits just a few exits north of Stamford on interstate highway 95. Rich in maritime history, this smallish city straddles the Norwalk River and is home to one of coastal Connecticut’s premiere boating communities. Marinas and beach houses line the Five Mile River in the town’s Rowayton section. The trendy South Norwalk area, affectionately known as SoNo, contains the highly acclaimed Maritime Aquarium, a rich display of ocean species indigenous to the Long Island Sound. Visitors can also take in an IMAX movie or catch a boat trip to nearby Sheffield Island for tours of the historic lighthouse. SoNo is a great spot for chic restaurants, artsy shops and galleries. In the early autumn the Norwalk Seaport Association sponsors the annual Oyster Festival, a gala event featuring first-class seafood and well-known entertainers.
