Let’s Make it a Green 2012 in Connecticut!

Of course we all want to protect the planet. It’s our home! With New Years approaching, we hope you will make it a resolution to educate yourself and work together with your family and community to practice an environmentally responsible lifestyle. In addition to helping protect the environment, keep in mind that living green is good for your own health, and your finances too.

Make it a family project! It’s probably best to start small and focus on making energy-saving tasks into habits. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Recycle: It’s not just a good idea, it’s the law in Connecticut. For a complete list of required recyclables and recycling centers, please visit http://ctrecyclingguide.com.

Save Water: Every little bit counts! Take shorter showers, turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth, only run the dishwasher when it is full, install aerators and check faucets and pipes for leaks. Visit EarthEasy.com for lots of great water saving tips.

Clean Green: Make the switch to chemical free cleaning supplies. There are many natural cleaning products for sale nowadays. And don’t forget the old cleaning staples of vinegar and baking soda for squeaky clean surfaces and substantial savings.

Wear a Sweater: Dressing warmly in the house will allow you to keep the thermostat slightly lower. Pull back those curtains and let the sunlight in to help warm the temperature – unless of course your windows are leaking cold air – if they are, seal them up!

Flip the Switch: Turn lights and electronics off when you are not in the room!
